One of our Founding Members, Jerry Brown, Attorney General of California, wrote the following letter to the delegates of the State Democratic Convention, which will take place on April 25, 2009. We could not have explained the cause of LABOR JUSTICE any better.

Jerry Brown Letter to Delegates/State Democratic Convention

Dear Fellow Democrat:

I’m writing to ask your help to undo a grave injustice.

As our economy continues to spiral down, echoing the troubled times of the 1930’s, we need to take up an unfinished battle left over from the New Deal.

When President Roosevelt signed the Wagner Act in 1935, the Segregationist Southern Democrats in Congress blocked all efforts to include domestic and farm workers under the new national labor law. These so called Dixiecrats could not accept that African-Americans be put on an equal footing in the workplace with whites. As a result, millions of farm laborers and domestic workers today still toil in abject poverty outside the protections of either state or federal law. This is a lingering shame and national injustice which must be corrected.
